Social-Emotional Activities for
Lake County Students

LAKE COUNTY, CALIF. (October 26, 2022) The Lake County Office of Education is working with various middle schools in Lake County to bring Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities to their campuses.

SEL is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success.

This is made possible through part of the CalHope Grant, administered by the Educational Services Department.

Campuses involved are the Middletown Middle School, the Upper Lake Middle School and Terrace Middle School.

The LCOE Staff started by doing weekly activities during the lunch break at schools.

Activities started slowly with chalk art where students were encouraged to write positive quotes or draw images that represented how they were feeling.

The Educational Services department also organizes monthly Quad Fairs for these schools.

The goal is to bring community organizations into the school to support and inspire connections between students and the community.

Each month will have a different theme. For the month of September, the theme was agriculture.

The Middletown FFA (Future Farmers of America) brought information, a welding setup, wreath-making activity and a pig science display to the Middletown Middle School.

Terrace Middle School and Upper Lake Middle School had Clear Lake State Park rangers and staff provide information about the Junior Rangers program. They also had animal pelts and bones for kids to look at.
